Portrait of Tracie Devault

Founder of The Limen

Hi, I'm Tracie.

For more than fifteen years, I've helped people understand one thing: communication isn't just about words.

It's about people. About meaning. About identity. About perception. About the stories we tell ourselves before we ever open our mouths.

Holding a Master of Arts in Communication and teaching communication at the university level has given me a deep appreciation for communication theory.

Working with thousands of real people has taught me something just as important:

Theory only matters if it helps someone have a better conversation tomorrow.

That's why I created The Limen.

A distinct role

Why “Communication Doula”?

I don't have conversations for my clients.

I don't tell people what to say.

I walk beside them while they prepare for conversations that matter.

Like a birth doula helps guide someone through one of life's most significant transitions, I help people navigate communication thresholds with preparation, support, and confidence.

The meaning behind the work

Why The Limen?

Limen means threshold: the in-between space, the moment before change.

The logo represents this moment—a doorway, a step forward, and the layers of the Communication Cycle that shape every interaction.

The Limen is where we pause, understand, and choose a new way forward.
